Prior authorization (PA) is a process required by some insurance plans before certain medications can be approved.
Even though ADHD Advisor is a self-pay service, prior authorization may still be needed if you plan to use insurance at the pharmacy.
When is prior authorization required?
Prior authorization may be required when:
β’ your insurance needs approval before covering a medication
β’ the medication is not automatically covered under your plan
β’ additional clinical information is needed
π This is determined by your insurance company β not ADHD Advisor.
How does prior authorization work?
If your medication requires prior authorization:
1. your provider prescribes the medication
2. our support team may request additional details
3. a prior authorization request is submitted to your insurance
4. your insurance reviews and approves or denies the request
How long does it take?
Timing varies depending on your insurance provider.
β’ some requests are processed within a few days
β’ others may take longer depending on the review process
π Delays are often caused by insurance processing β not your provider.
What information may be needed?
To submit a prior authorization, we may need:
β’ your insurance card details
β’ prescription information
β’ additional clinical details
Our support team will reach out if anything is required.
What happens after approval?
If your prior authorization is approved:
β’ your pharmacy can proceed with filling the medication
β’ youβll be notified when itβs ready for pickup
If itβs denied, your provider may discuss alternative options with you.
Important notes
β’ prior authorization is handled by your insurance provider
β’ approval is not guaranteed
β’ ADHD Advisor does not control insurance decisions
