Your ADHD evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to understand your symptoms, history, and overall needs.
This helps your provider determine whether ADHD is an appropriate diagnosis and what next steps may be recommended.
What happens during the evaluation?
During your appointment, your provider will:
• review your intake forms and questionnaires
• ask questions about your symptoms and daily functioning
• discuss your medical, mental health, and behavioral history
• explore how symptoms impact different areas of your life (work, school, relationships, etc.)
The evaluation is conversational and personalized to your experience.
What screening tools are used?
Your provider may use standardized screening tools as part of the evaluation, including:
• ADHD symptom assessments
• general mental health screeners
• questionnaires that help assess focus, mood, and functioning
These tools support — but do not replace — your provider’s clinical judgment.
What conditions are considered?
In addition to ADHD, your provider may assess for other factors that could impact your symptoms, such as:
• anxiety
• depression
• stress or lifestyle factors
• other mental health or medical considerations
This helps ensure an accurate and thoughtful diagnosis.
How is a diagnosis determined?
Your provider will evaluate your symptoms using established clinical criteria (such as DSM-5 guidelines) and their professional judgment.
A diagnosis is based on:
• your reported symptoms
• your history and functional impact
• clinical evaluation during the appointment
👉 Not everyone will receive an ADHD diagnosis.
What happens after the evaluation?
After your evaluation, your provider will discuss:
• whether you meet criteria for ADHD
• recommended next steps
• potential treatment options (if appropriate)
This may include:
• a diagnosis and care plan
• a diagnosis letter (when applicable)
• discussion of medication or therapy options
Important notes
• evaluations are conducted by licensed providers
• each assessment is individualized — no two evaluations are the same
• diagnosis and treatment decisions are based on clinical judgment
